An Interview with Mi apparel
Thank you for wanting to be part our exclusive network. What were your reasons for joining us and investing in the Ethical Brand Directory / Academy and community?
It all started after a year of bloody, sweat, tears when I finally opened ‘mi apparel’ to the world online
After opening, I realised how I have now fallen into limbo land and now I am in phase two ‘PANIC’ and trying to raise awareness for myself & my brand because lets face it, building a business is a lonely place & there is an amazing ethical community out there which I want to be part of personally & in business I believe, EBD & community is a fantastic place to start.
Can you give me a brief overview of your brand and the type of products you sell?
mi apparel is an online shop that sells Ethical, Sustainable, Transparent Fashion & Lifestyle brands through Womenswear Accessories, Clothing & Beauty.
What are the 3 most important things that your people should know about your brand?
1.All mi apparel products are personally chosen for you.
2. Each product is to bring joy to your life and make you feel good about yourself and at mi apparel, I’ve made sure that each product has been created in an Ethical, Sustainable, Transparent way.
3. We’re here to build a clean living together. Your products tell a story of you, your products have stories of their own, let’s make them good, positive, happy stories.
What was your WHY? What inspired you to set up your business?
Me & my family. I have worked on and off for 20 years in the fashion industry & I was a buyer during the beginning explosion of fast fashion. I went on through my career, had kids and what inspired me to set up mi apparel was from when I saw the number of clothes my children had consumed in their short lives…! This took me back into fashion straight away put at a different perspective, and here I am today.
What challenges do independent brands like yourself face?
At the end of the day, we are in a place where people what things NOW. This isn’t what we are about. its about taking a step back, becoming mindful, slow down and take a look at life. We could get lost in the fashion industry where the ‘big brands’ are starting to ‘catch on’ to the ethical, sustainable fashion and start shouting about it, as its the new trend for this season (not that there are any seasons any more) & people carry on branding what they know and who they are comfortable with.
Why is it important to be ethical in business?
It’s up to use to change it, because nothing happens by its self and who else will do it? We need to shift the old routine, into a new better more sustainable one otherwise it’s going to get worse (and its already pretty f**ing bad in the world). We owe it to our kids & their kids. Yes, it sounds like a blockbuster movie quote but I don’t care! I teach my kids, manners, compassion, equality & love for the things they have in their life a from family, to our planet and everything in between.

What steps are you taking to ensure your brand operates as ethically as possible?
I run the ship here. Everything operates ethically.
How important is sustainability for businesses? What are you doing in your business to reduce your environmental impact?
Very Important. I practice what I preach I suppose otherwise whats the point!
For my business personally,?well I’m a one woman band at mi apparel so recycling is key, zero waste (mi apparel packaging is also zero waste) and I use renewable energy for my energy supply. Its not much, but its all need right now in my little office.
What are you not doing in your business but want to improve on?
I haven’t come to any areas of improvement just yet, but if something does need to improve it will probably get changed pretty quickly!
What is the link to your page on sustainability on your website?
In 10 years from now where would you like to see the fashion/beauty/travel world? From a business and a consumer perspective
Happier, healthier and healing from all the destruction we have done to get where we are today.
Greed has over taken on ever level in all the industries. It’s still OK to have a business and want to be successful and earn money, we just need to stop treating people and our planet like s**t to get there.
Do you have any favourite ethical and sustainable quotes, or any key influencers that inspire you?
