In today’s interview find out more about Marta Canga, a cruelty-free fashion, vegan food and green beauty blogger living in London.
Thanks for supporting GG2019, what were your reasons for wanting to get involved this year?
Thank you for having me! I am extremely honoured to participate this year. The main reason why I decided to join GG2019 this year is because I am trying to spread the word about vegan and sustainable fashion, cruelty-free and natural beauty to the world and thought it would be great to discuss this with a like-minded community and beyond!
Where is home for you?
Brussels or London! I have been living in London for the past 4.5 years, though I grew up on Brussels, Belgium 🙂
How easy is it to live sustainably where you live and work?
London is pretty good in this aspect, you get discounts when you bring your own coffee cup, recycling exist in some places, including TerraCycle spots in Central London. People are encouraged to live more sustainably, however in my opinion we could do a lot more work! I can see this particularly at work, where people don’t know how to recycle properly and it drives me crazy! One of the things we should all make an effort on is cutting plastic cutlery, straws and plastic bags in my opinion.
What’s the hardest thing about living sustainably?
Being on the go. When I am at home I try to be as zero waste as I can possibly be, but having a busy lifestyle interferes with any effort I think! I also think that sustainable fashion for instance can be expensive for some people and also hard to find, so I think the key words I’d pull from this are commodity and laziness!
What small change in your life has made a big impact so far?
Buying less has made a huge difference in my wardrobe whenever I get dressed in the morning! I love my reusable stuff and meeting like-minded people in this environment has made me feel less alone too, it can feel a bit overwhelming and you may feel powerless at times, but know that there are other people who aren’t even trying so! Try your best and feel good about the fact that you are making a change 🙂
If you could have 3 eco-wishes granted what would they be?
To ban plastic bags
To ban fast fashion
Ban toxic chemicals
Who is your sustainability hero and why?
Where do you hope we (as a collective on planet earth) will be by 2025?
For sustainability, conscious living and ethical trading to be the norm. We need this to be an imperative in our society, not a cool, bonus green factor!
And finally what will be your Going Green Pledge be for 2019?
For me my biggest thing is to do my groceries in bulk and stop buying my groceries online so much. Thankfully I am moving houses soon so I am looking to move somewhere where there is a farmer’s market! That would be my absolute dream.
