The Ethical Brand Directory has grown and evolved. We started as a non-profit project back in 2017 and today, as we transition into a commercial model that supports our growth, we’ve naturally become much more than just a Directory. We now offer 3-core services to help ethical businesses grow: The Ethical Brand Directory, The Ethical Brand Boutique and The Ethical Brand Academy. Our founder Roberta Lee, London’s Sustainable Fashion Stylist plays a very active role in selecting which brands we work with or stock on our boutique.
All our services have developed to help ethical businesses get more brand exposure and targeted traffic, generate more sales and make more money. The Academy provides affordable access to all the tools you need to succeed as an ethical and sustainable business.
We understand the challenges small business face which is why our ecosystem of services are all interconnected to make life easier and less overwhelming for you.

Membership for The Directory is charged per annum – please see the Directory Membership page to see the current pricing.
Membership for the boutique is a one off onboarding fee and a set % is charged as commission on each sale. Pease see the Boutique membership page to see the current pricing.
Membership for the Academy is charged differently. We offer some free training, there is an option to pay as you go each month. Annual membership is most cost effective but must be paid in full. Boutique Fast-Track enable you to sell products at a higher commission, but lower onboarding fee.
You must qualify to be able to sell on our boutique, once you do, we take of the marketing and notify you if any sales come through.

No and Yes. We don’t offer any try before you buy options for the Directory or Boutique. But you can opt for a different membership at a lower cost with reduced benefits to get started.
We DO offer some free training modules on the Academy.
No, you can mix and match to suit your needs. Membership to the Directory includes the option to sell on the boutique. You’d could do either: Directory/Boutique + Academy or Boutique + Academy.
We don’t offer discounts any more as our pricing is so competitive and offer incredible value

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Onboarding
Not too difficult if you have all your company documentation, supplier audits and proof of certifications to hand!
You will need all your company data, documents, certificates and generally any proof of auditing factories and suppliers. The form allows you to upload content and our system will allocate a score based on your answers.
Our team will check your supporting evidence. Your profile will be sent to our founder Roberta Lee to review your brand’s honesty, transparency and aesthetic – and then decide if she will approve.
We will then take payment and start the mostly automated onboarding process for building your listing – and then selecting which of your product range is right for our boutique.
As a directory member your products will be highlighted on our website + across our marketing, so we will need you to upload digital assets into a folder for us.
With regards to the Boutique – it should be a simple plug and play scenario where we push and pull data from your existing shop.
Pretty easy. You will need all your company data, documents, certificates and generally any proof of auditing factories and suppliers. The form allows you to upload content and our system will allocate a score based on your answers. Our team will check your supporting evidence. If you score meets our criteria, your profile will be sent to our founder Roberta Lee to approve. We will then take payment and start the automated onboarding on your products for our boutique.
We estimate getting your products live in around 7-days (as long as we don’t need any follow up information).
It’s then over to you to start sharing content and letting people know you are on our boutique and a member of the Ethical Brand Network.
Very easy. Your name, email and a few details about your business is all that is required.
Once you sign up and make payment you can be online and learning from our expert content in a matter of minutes.
You will need all your company data, documents, certificates and generally any proof of auditing factories and suppliers. Tracability of the people you work with through third parties or directly are paid a decent living wage, that you adopt sustainable practices in the production of your products. How you handle toxic waste. You will need to know where your materials come from, how they are made and by who.
Yes, we have serveral brands who have one hero product, available in different colour ways.
Yes, we are not a vegan Directory or Boutique, but you must not list any fur and any leather must be sourced responsibly. If you are unable to trace where your materials come from it will be hard to prove it wasn’t enethically sourced.
Yes, however we would need a public commitment from you to make a change to your packaging so that it is compostable or fully recyable. We would encourage you to implment a return scheme for customers any plastic packaging, such as moisturiser pots for beauty products.
Q: WHAT COLLABORATION OPPORTUNITIES ARE THERE?
Our founder Roberta Lee is often asked what collaboration opportunities there are for our brands. In this video, she explains the benefits of being a member, as you get access to her network, PR exposure and styling business too.

We give our members preferential treatment and allocate collaboration opportunities to them first. We do not promote brands, or collaborate with brands that are not listed on the Ethical Brand Directory or Ethical Brand Boutique.
With regards to the Ethical Brand Academy we do work with service based businesses that are not listed on the Directory or Boutique.
We work very closely with our paying brands to ensure they get the best opportunities we can provide. This will vary from sharing the costs of marketing campaigns, group photoshoots, reduced fees for shared exhibiting space at events. Roberta Lee our founder also features her stylists picks in her shoots, recommendations for her clients, on her online course, her styling tips (a downloadable lead magnet), on the TV, on stage and much more.
Self-certified fast tracked members that join our boutique do not benefit from the same perks as our Directory members. We also prioritise our premium paying clients for exposure across out network and group collaborations. If this is something you want from your membership, we recommend you go with Directory membership, which includes the boutique and preferential exposure and collaboration opportunities.
The Academy provides a space to learn, connect and share ideas with others. There are no restrictions on who you collaborate with or how – it’s totally up to you.
We will facilitate group knowledge sharing sessions, masterminds and more. Academy members get access to a private networking group.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: MARKETS + REACH
The website is undergoing major SEO improvement, and new sales and marketing funnel rebuilds. When we first started out we were a non-profit project and relied on organic traffic. We used a combination of on and offline activities to reach our audience, such as our founder appearing on major TV broadcasting channels like the BBC and ITV. We relied heavily on Roberta’s frequent appearances on the stage in London to raise our profile too.
In short, Roberta’s work on and offline has always driven our online traffic.
Right now we average between 2,000 – 3,000 unique visitors per month.
Once we have rebuilt our systems and optimised our marketing funnels we intend to significantly boost traffic, by allocating a % of all membership fees towards ad spend.
Our goal is to increase traffic and get in front of our target audience. We intend to see a 10% growth month on month of website traffic across 2021.
We will continue to leverage our founders organic traffic across her website that gets 4,000+ hits per month. The more content she puts out, the more her traffic expands, so will leverage backlinks and referral traffic. With paid ads this reach is always amplified up to 10X.
EBD has over 10K followers on Instagram, over 3K on Twitter, our current engagement rate has dropped due to the changing algorithms.
We average just under a 2% engagement rate. We are working on this with the team at KSV who are key investors in our company. We intend to utilise Pinterest and YouTube as we scale the company. We also intend to invest significant marketing spend on the platforms best suited to our business model.
Social media marketing. Email marketing. Facebook Adverts. Paid Search. In -person and online events, for example, through pop-ups which gave us access to over 55k consumers and Pure London, as well as PR exposure through Roberta’s media appearances including the BBC, ITV and Harper’s Bazaar
UK & Europe, we will be expanding to the US, Canada, Asia & Australia
We haven’t started pushing the boutique yet, so we don’t have conversion figures as we’ve not been marketing it properly. We have a goal to get 200 brands onboarded before we invest in significant marketing spend.
